GIVE REASONS - LEARNING TO USE WHY

WARM-UP. NAME 3 things you don't like to do and explain WHY. USE BECAUSE. Example: I don't like eating seafood because I hate how it tastes

Is English important? Do you use it on a daily basis, at work or home?

Give 3 reasons why people should study ENGLISH nowadays. Example: I think people should study English because it helps find better opportunities

To ask questions with "why" in A1 English, use this simple formula: Why + auxiliary (do/does/is/are...) + subject + verb? It asks for the reason of something, and answers often start with "because".

Examples

  • Why do you like English? Because it's fun.

  • Why is she late? Because she missed the bus.

  • Why are you happy? Because I passed the test.

WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE DOING THESE ACTIONS AND WHY

Listening is a key skill in learning English. It helps you understand real conversations, improve pronunciation, and build confidence when speaking. Many students focus only on grammar or vocabulary, but without good listening, they struggle in real-life situations like meetings, classes, or travel.

Experts say that listening makes up 45% of communication time in daily life. For example, when you watch English movies or podcasts, you learn natural speed, idioms, and emotions that books can't teach. Moreover, it trains your brain to predict words and meanings, which boosts overall fluency.

Why Practice Listening?

It improves your accent by copying native speakers.

You get used to different accents (British, American, Australian).

It makes speaking easier because you know how words connect in sentences.

Comprehension Questions

Answer these questions in full sentences. Justify your answers with reasons or examples.

Why do you think listening is more important than reading for beginners? Give two reasons.

How can listening practice help someone get a better job? Explain with an example.

Do you agree that watching Netflix without subtitles is the best way to practice? Why or why not? Justify your opinion.

What happens if a student ignores listening skills? Support your answer.

Reading is essential for English learners because it expands vocabulary and improves grammar naturally. Unlike listening, where speed can overwhelm beginners, reading lets you pause, look up words, and understand context at your own pace. Studies show that regular readers gain 20-30% more new words per month than those who only study lists.

Through books, articles, or stories, you encounter real sentence structures, idioms, and cultural references that make your English authentic. For instance, novels like "Harry Potter" teach descriptive language while keeping you engaged. It also builds stamina for longer texts, like emails or reports in a job.

Benefits of Reading Practice

Increases comprehension of complex ideas.

Enhances writing skills by modeling good style.

Boosts imagination and critical thinking.

Comprehension Questions

Answer in full sentences. Justify with reasons or examples from the text or your experience.

Why might reading be better than listening for vocabulary building? Give an example.

How does reading help with job skills? Provide a specific scenario.

Do you prefer fiction or news articles for practice? Why? Explain your choice.

What problems arise if someone skips reading? Support your view.
